New Zealand Red Cross believes it is important to keep you informed on significant changes to NZQA First Aid Requirements

NZQA and the Department of Labour have released a first aid information sheet for employers and employees to answer common questions around first aid training.
These include information on the new unit standards, online learning and the minimum course lengths.
For the minimum requirements at your workplace refer to the Department of Labours First Aid for Workplaces - A Good Practice Guide (2009)

COMPREHENSIVE FIRST AID (Duration 12 hours)

New Zealand Red Cross Comprehensive First Aid is a workplace first aid course and covers the important core training to administer first aid at work and the specialised training based on needs assessment. Specific scenarios are selected for each course based on the course participants area of risk.
Meets the Department of Labours Good Practice Guide (September 2009) and is the minimum requirement for higher risk workplaces.
Recommended for all workplaces including industry, sports, factories, education centres etc.


ESSENTIAL FIRST AID (Duration 8 hours)

New Zealand Red Cross Essential First Aid is a workplace first aid course and covers the important core training to administer first aid at work.
Meets the Department of Labours Good Practice Guide (September 2009) for low risk workplaces.
Recommended as the minimum for low risk workplaces, home, office, clubs and anyone who wants to learn the essentials of first aid.
