branches & groups

Most New Zealand Red Cross members like to work in a team and so they join one of the over 120 Red Cross branches and groups around New Zealand.

Click on an area in the map below to see where they are and what they do, and to join a branch or group near you. Or if there's no branch or group near you, you are welcome to start one - talk to your area council.

Branches are more formal (with a President, Secretary and Treasurer) and manage their own accounts. Groups are less formal (simply have a coordinator) and any funds are managed through a Red Cross area office.

Branches and groups may choose to do any of the following activities:

  • Deliver services to vulnerable people in their community. Services are tailored to community needs and so there's wide variation in what branches and groups do around the country
  • Fundraise for their own services and other New Zealand Red Cross programmes at home and overseas
  • Raise awareness about the work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and international humanitarian law
