Red Cross veteran Warwick Inder has been deployed to China this week for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He will work with the Red Cross Society of China.

Hours after the most recent quake, in Qinghai Province, 1,000 Chinese Red Cross volunteers began distributing relief such as tents, blankets, food and winter clothing, providing first aid, transporting injured people in ambulances, and activating trained Emergency Response Units.

New Zealand Red Cross will make funds and resources available should there be a request of assistance from China.

Mr Inder is one of New Zealand Red Cross' most experienced aid workers with more than 25 years experience on 11 missions working in countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Tajikistan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Belarus, China and Timor-Leste.

Mr Inder's Red Cross work was recently recognised with the New Zealand Operational Service Medal and the New Zealand General Service Medal (Timor-Leste).
