• Recognise an emergency exists
• Decide to act
• Check for Danger ensuring the scene is safe to yourself and casualties
• Check to see if the casualty responds, ask them what happen and identify the emergency
• Identify the injuries or illness
• Listen to or look for the history of the incident
• Look for signs
• Call for help - If it is serious or the casualty does not respond call 111 immediately

• Adult (>8 years): 30 compressions with 2 hands, 2 breaths
• Child (2-8 years): 30 compressions with one hand, 2 breaths
• Infant (up to 1 year): 30 compressions with 2 fingers, 2 puffs
how do I use an automated external defibrillator(AED)?
Undertake CPR until the AED unit arrives on the scene and is ready to be used.
Open the AED unit.
Expose the chest area and make sure it is as clean and dry as practicable.
The unit should then prompt you to apply the pads for the assessment, and stand clear for any shocks to be administered.
