CANTERBURY EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

  • Foodstuffs are to place food donation boxes in each of their New World, PAK 'n SAVE and many 4 Square supermarkets throughout New Zealand.
  • Paper Plus are to place donation boxes in all their stores across New Zealand.
  • Vtnz are to place donation boxes in all their service centres across New Zealand.

NEW ZEALAND RED CROSS CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR CANTERBURY RELIEF EFFORT

  • We are now looking for trained Red Cross volunteers from around New Zealand available over the coming days and weeks to assist with emergency relief efforts in Canterbury. Please forward names, contact details and dates available to Graeme Brown at National office.

NEW ZEALAND RED CROSS ON THE GROUND IN CANTERBURY

  • Red Cross staff are assisting residents relocate from a number of aged care facilities over the next couple of days
  • Burnside Welfare Centre has been closed this morning, due to structural damaged following the aftershocks overnight.
  • Red Cross staff are assisting those at Burnside Welfare Centre move over to Addington.
  • Red Cross have donated 200 beds to Addington Welfare Centre with the help of Kathmandu at a reduced cost. They will help with the families coming in from Burnside.
  • A BIG THANK YOU to our Red Cross teams on the ground in Canterbury

o The Timaru Response Team have headed home for some well earned rest
o The Christchurch Response Team are now being rested from duties
o The Blenhiem, Nelson and Dunedin Teams are working on the ground in Christchurch

  • Red Cross staff are working with the Ministry of Social Development, Psycho-social teams doing door to door assessments and linking residents to support services.
  • Meals on Wheels continues to operate uninterrupted across Canterbury. Red Cross volunteers are delivering a tasty, hot meal to the housebound and elderly.

 

INFORMATION FOR EVACUEES
• Red Cross volunteers working at welfare centres have advised, if people evacuated from their homes are coming to welfare centres, if you can please remember to bring some form of identification - community services card, drivers licence etc. This all helps the volunteers to register you quickly.
