five fabulous fundraising ideas
Here's some suggestions for fundraisers you could organise in support of New Zealand Red Cross;
1. Garage sale
2. TradeMe Auction
3. Sponsorship
4. Host at Home
5. But wait there's more...
1. Garage Sale
Spring clean the cupboards, empty out the garage and convert your unwanted items into cash with a classic kiwi garage sale in support of New Zealand Red Cross.
2. TradeMe Auction
Sell your unwanted items on TradeMe and let your bidders know that all/part of the proceeds will be donated to New Zealand Red Cross.
3. Sponsorship
Up for a challenge like giving up chocolate or coffee for a week, not speaking for 24 hours, or having your head shaved? Why not set yourself a goal and get your friends, family and work mates to sponsor you for achieving it? It's a great opportunity to kick a bad habit or just to try something new.
• If you're wanting to be sponsored for something you're doing, you can set up your own website that family, friends and others can log in to to donate to Red Cross. > www.fundraiseonline.co.nz
4. Host at Home
Cook a meal, host a high tea or have a casual Sunday brunch, invite your friends in return for a donation to New Zealand Red Cross. You could also run a silent auction or provide some additional entertainment to raise money. Everyone who comes will not only have a great time but they'll also be supporting the work of New Zealand Red Cross.
5. But wait there's more
• Do you belong to a club that runs a regular fundraising event? How about nominating New Zealand Red Cross as the beneficiary charity?
• Students, why not organise a mufti day at your school - everyone could wear something red!
• Help a neighbour or member of your family by taking their dog for a walk, doing their shopping or cleaning up the garden in exchange for a small donation. It soon adds up.
• You might want to think bigger and organise a charity ball, auction or sporting event for the benefit of New Zealand Red Cross
some tips for organising an event
Events can be a great way to raise funds. If you're looking to organise an event we suggest you:
Let us know
Please call 0800 RED CROSS (0800 733 276) to contact your local New Zealand Red Cross service centre about any events that you are planning in support of New Zealand Red Cross. We can provide advice and assistance.
Plan in advance
Think carefully about the event before you start and put an action plan together. Work out how long it will take you to organise it, who you could contact to help you and how much it might raise in relation to the effort involved. Try to find something that you will enjoy doing.
Work out a budget
Some costs to consider are postage, printing, photocopying, equipment, catering and hire charges. Perhaps you know individuals or local businesses who could donate the things you need.
Your income might include ticket/entry fees, sponsorship, donations, raffles, auctions, advertising and sale of goods and refreshments. Just make sure that your expected income is higher than your costs!
