Elections on the way - look for your voting paper in the mail in early July!

Elections for inaugural New Zealand Red Cross area councils will be held in five areas - Wellington, Canterbury North, Canterbury Mid-South, Otago and Southland. Red Cross members in these areas will receive a voting paper in the mail in early July.  If your voting paper doesn't arrive by 12 July please email transformation@redcross.org.nz. Completed votes must be mailed back by 31 July.

The National Board will confirm area councils in five areas in early August, after it has appointed people to fill some vacancies - in Auckland North/West, Auckland South/Central/East, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu/Wanganui and Tasman/Marlborough.

This year New Zealand Red Cross is changing the way we do things so that more people have a say and get involved in our work. The key changes are:

• From now on all members will have an equal voice - no matter whether they are individual members or belong to a branch or a group
• For Red Cross governance purposes, New Zealand will be divided into 16 areas
• Members in each area will elect an area council, whose main role is to lead and nurture members in their area. Some area councils are now confirmed (see the top of the page), others will be confirmed in early August.
• Any member may be nominated for the National Board (it's not necessary to have served on an area council first)
• Youth members will be guaranteed two delegates to the National Council and one representative on the National Board

To find out more information on the transformation and the new way of doing things, have a look at our New Zealand Red Cross family diagram or check out the new 16 areas by viewing the New Zealand Red Cross map. You can also email transformation@redcross.org.nz if you have any other questions.
