Settlement Case Worker, Kinyarwanda Speaking - Hamilton

We are seeking a Settlement Case Worker to join our team at Red Cross supporting former refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo who will come to Hamilton under the refugee quota.

We are seeking a Settlement Case Worker to join our team at Red Cross supporting former refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo who will come to Hamilton under the refugee quota.

This position will work alongside the our team of social workers, caseworkers and volunteers to assist the new families in their resettlement

In this role you will:

  • Provide casework services to newly arrived Congolese people under the Refugee Quota Programme
  • Provide language and cultural support alongside resettlement case workers and social workers as required
  • Ensure that appropriate linkages are made to service providers
  • Contribute to opportunities for raising public awareness of the refugee experience
  • Advocate for refugee clients in the NZ social context
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of resettlement work in NZRC.

  • Speak, read and write Kinyarwanda and English fluently
  • Are a former refugee or have knowledge and experience of the refugee journey and settlement experience
  • Have experience of strengths based practice and providing one-to-one support to clients
  • Are able to relate to and support people of different cultural and religious backgrounds
  • Live in the Hamilton region and have a good understanding of local services available to former refugees
  • Have a good understanding of both the New Zealand and Congolese culture and way of life
  • Have knowledge of confidentiality and privacy act practices
  • Have excellent oral, listening and written communication skills
  • Are enthusiastic and have the commitment to work as a team member of NZRC.
