Today you have helped to make sure that when our Pacific neighbours, like Vanuatu, are affected by a disaster or emergency, we are ready to deliver life-changing relief.

THANK YOU!

By donating to our Pacific Disaster Fund, you will help make sure that when a disaster or emergency affects our Pacific neighbours, together, we are ready to respond and provide life-changing relief.

The Pacific is one of the most vulnerable regions to disasters in the world. Each year, typically between November and April, 10 tropical cyclones will form in the Pacific, on average. Any one of these cyclones has the potential to strike land, bringing torrential rain, floods and gale-force winds.

Within moments, extreme wind and torrential rain from a tropical cyclone can destroy homes, livelihoods and community infrastructure, sweeping away almost everything in its path.

As well as the threat posed by cyclones, the Pacific region is also vulnerable to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunami. As climate change impacts grow, our Pacific neighbours are increasingly vulnerable to the devastating impacts of emergencies.

Ready to support in Vanuatu

Cyclone Lola made landfall on the northern islands of Vanuatu in late October. We are connected with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Vanuatu Red Cross, and our teams are ready to respond based on needs and requirements.

We also supported earlier in the year when Vanuatu was hammered by two cyclones and hit by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake within 24 hours, causing extensive damage to homes, crops and communication networks.

Our Pacific Disaster Fund enabled us to deploy international delegates and specialist IT & Telecommunications equipment to Vanuatu to provide critical assistance restoring severed communications, following Cyclones Judy and Kevin. Emergency communications are crucial following a disaster so that local Red Cross teams can communicate needs and urgent relief requirements on the ground.

We need your help so when the next disaster or emergency threatens communities in the Pacific region, like those in Vanuatu, we can provide immediate support.

Donate now to the Pacific Disaster Fund and help make sure that critical support is on the way for our Pacific neighbours when they are struck by an emergency.

Also, don’t forget that when you donate over $5, you can claim 33.33 percent of it back from IRD!
