New Zealand Red Cross people facilitate and organise a wide range of fundraising events. We’ll keep this page updated with key dates in our fundraising calendar.

Types of fundraising events

Some events are nationwide and are organised by our Community Fundraising team. For example, our annual appeal is held in March every year.

Some of our regional events have become a fixture in the New Zealand Red Cross calendar. For example, our popular book fairs delivered by our wonderful volunteers. Sometimes events are hosted by other organisations. For example, we register a team every year in the Wellington Dragon Boating Festival.

Many fundraising events happen in your local community. For example, our amazing volunteers spend many hours sizzling sausages at your nearest Bunnings Warehouse.

This page doesn’t have every single New Zealand Red Cross fundraising event.

We have over 8000 volunteers in over 52 locations around New Zealand. We simply couldn’t keep up with their awesome mahi fast enough to update this page. We advertise many of local fundraising events on social media or in local news.

This page doesn’t include ideas for seasonal fundraising. For ways you can support Red Cross shops during Christmas and other seasonal fundraising tips see our fundraising ideas page.

31 May to 3 June 2024	Palmerston North’s amazing Book Sale is coming this King’s Birthday weekend! Put the dates in your diary now. Invite your family and friends. When: 31 May to 3 June 2024. Doors open from 10am. Location: Barber/Bell Hall, Waldegrave Street, Palmerston North Our renowned book sale has grown from humble beginnings into the present four-day event that unites community groups, schools, and people from across the province. The event sells games, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles, music, comics and more. All money raised goes to New Zealand Red Cross to help those in need here at home and around the world. December 2024	Support a good cause with our Here For Good Online Auction When: TBC Location: Online via Trade Me - Nationwide Whether you’re looking for a gift for someone special, want to treat yourself, or just appreciate a great deal, New Zealand Red Cross' Here for Good online auction is the perfect way to support a good cause this holiday season. From scenic helicopter rides to mystery flights, items for all tastes will be available, kindly donated by our generous supporters. All proceeds will go to our Where the Need is Greatest Fund, supporting vulnerable people in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas. To add to the excitement all items will be listed with a $1 reserve! If you are looking for a gift for someone special, want to treat yourself, or appreciate a great deal, check out the auction in December and start bidding! Here for Good online auction
January to March 2025	New Zealand Red Cross Dragon Boat Team Date: TBC (training takes place January to March, with Race Day in March) Location: Wellington Join Team Red Cross for the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival and help those in need both here in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world, all while having fun and staying fit. Each team member commits to eight weeks of training and fundraising, and the season ends by competing in the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival. More information, and a link for signing up to join Team Red Cross, will be published closer to the time.
March 2025	Annual Appeal and Street Collection Date: TBC Location: All around New Zealand and online March is Annual Appeal month for New Zealand Red Cross. Across the motu, volunteers in red bibs will flood the streets to raise awareness and collect vital donations to help those in need here at home and around the world. To register your interest as an Annual Appeal volunteer please email getfundraising@redcross.org.nz.
