Myanmar Earthquake Appeal closure

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, 28 March 2025, causing widespread damage, loss of life, and leaving many injured and in need of food, shelter, and medical assistance. Following the earthquake, New Zealand Red Cross launched an emergency appeal. Thanks to the kindness and compassion of supporters, over $215,000 was raised to support the response and recovery.
More than 1.3 million people were directly affected. Homes, buildings, power, water and communication systems were severely damaged or destroyed. People and families were without access to necessities like shelter, clean water, and medical care, and communities were in desperate need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
Red Cross teams were on the ground immediately to support rescue and response efforts, and to deliver critical humanitarian aid. Myanmar Red Cross rescued survivors, provided first aid, distributed emergency shelter supplies, and worked to reconnect loved ones separated by the disaster. Their efforts were crucial in providing urgent relief to people who have been affected.
