We cannot do what we do without people like you. And now, as communities face more frequent and extreme weather events across Aotearoa New Zealand due to climate change impacts, your generosity and kindness are needed more than ever!
Your donation today will help us to continue to be there for those impacted by devastating disasters and emergencies across the country, such as Cyclone Gabrielle. It will also help ensure we are prepared to give life-changing assistance to those affected by the next emergency we face in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We rely on the kindness and generosity of people like you to ensure that our teams are fully trained, equipped with essential supplies, and ready to give critical help to people caught in a disaster or emergency.
Climate change is causing increasingly frequent and severe weather events across Aotearoa New Zealand. We’re feeling this impact now more than ever. Cyclone Gabrielle battered our communities whilst we were barely in the recovery phase of the flooding in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Northland, causing unthinkable devastation across the country. People and families have lost everything, and tragically, lives have been lost.
Severe flooding brought on by more heavy rainfall in the North Island has caused further unimaginable damage and left communities in areas such as Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti isolated and in desperate need.
New Zealand Red Cross teams work with emergency management agencies to deliver vital assistance across some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s hardest-hit areas. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, so far, we have been able to:
- deploy our specialist Red Cross people to deliver psychosocial support to those affected
- help run Civil Defence Centres and give practical help to those who have been forced to leave their homes
- purchase and distribute emergency supplies such as generators, fuel containers, satellite phones, and portable radios into affected communities
- restock emergency equipment like bedding and stretchers
- provide first aid kits, dehumidifiers, and clean-up kits.
We know that recovery from the recent emergencies will take time. We will continue to support communities through the recovery for as long as we are needed. We also know that our support will be needed more often and for longer in the future.
By making a donation to the New Zealand Disaster Fund, you will help us continue to be there for the people and families that have been severely impacted by recent weather events. You will also help to ensure that when the next emergency or disaster hits anywhere in Aotearoa, we are ready to give urgent emergency aid and recovery assistance to those affected.
So please, donate now if you can, and know that you’re not only assisting our response and recovery in the communities affected by recent events, such as the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle, but you’re also making sure that the next community facing an emergency here at home will have access to our support and a helping hand in their time of need.
Don’t forget that when you make a donation of over $5.00, you can claim 33.33 percent of it back from IRD!
