When you support New Zealand Red Cross, you are bringing the practical spirit of humanity where the need is greatest. Your generous donation can improve the lives of those who have been impacted by conflict, disasters and emergencies around the world – and often here in New Zealand, such as Cyclone Gabrielle last year. You support former refugees as they arrive needing to build new lives after unimaginable persecution in their own lands. You help the most vulnerable, such as those who may struggle to maintain their own nutrition, whether through age, illness or disability, through services such as Meals on Wheels.

Your support gives our most vulnerable neighbours – like Gwen in Hawke’s Bay – access to a nourishing and varied diet, delivered with human warmth by 3200 wonderful New Zealand Red Cross representatives like Linda.

Linda says, “I do think that social interaction is the most valuable aspect of this service. People want to be connected. They want kindness. There's a real need out there.”

Gwen agrees. “I just love the people that bring them. We’ve become good friends. I feel very looked after, very cared for.”

The need for New Zealand Red Cross’ Meals on Wheels programme has never been greater and is expected to keep growing. Four years ago, our wonderful volunteers delivered around 620,000 nutritious meals.

Last year, the total was 15% higher, at 714,000. This year the total looks set to rise even more.
