First Aid Training Terms and Conditions
First Aid Training Terms & Conditions
Booking and Payment
Course bookings can only be confirmed once payment has been received, or if you have an active account in which you will be invoiced. Courses are charged at the price on our website at the date of the order, unless special agreements are in place.
For customers paying by invoice, an invoice is sent within 10 working days after the course has taken place. You may be charged interest and/or collection fees if payment is not received by the due date.
Rebooking public courses
If you/your staff cannot attend your/their course, notice of at least 2 business days must be given. Failure to give notice will result in the full course fee being charged.
Courses may be rebooked no more than two times at no extra cost prior to the course date. Further rebooking thereafter may incur an administration fee. You have 3 months from your course date to use your original payment towards your course rebooking. After 3 months, any credit you have with us will expire.
For non-attendance on the day of the course, no refund will be provided.
If a participant leaves a course without completing all the requirements, they will need to rebook for the full course, or at our discretion, arrange to complete a catch-up session.
Rebooking exclusive group courses
If your staff cannot attend the course, notice of at least 10 business days must be given.
You may rebook your course provided at least 10 business days’ notice has been given. Changing the booking more than twice may incur a rebooking fee.
Cancellations or rebookings made less than 10 business days prior to the day of the course will incur 25% charge of the total course fee.
Cancellations or rebookings made 5 business days or less to the day of the course will incur a 50% charge of the total course fee.
You may change participants without additional cost, however if participant numbers fall below the minimum threshold, the minimum charge of 10 participants will apply for that day.
If a participant that intended to attend an exclusive course is subsequently rebooked for a public course, and your exclusive course numbers fall below the minimum threshold, the minimum charge of 10 participants does not cover payment for their public course booking. The public course booking will be charged accordingly.
Course Cancellations by New Zealand Red Cross
Due to circumstances out of our control it is sometimes necessary to cancel courses at short notice. We reserve the right to cancel any courses at our discretion. NZRC is not liable for failure to deliver courses due to events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, extreme weather, pandemics, or governmental restrictions. In such cases, NZRC will offer alternative dates or full refunds. We will take all reasonable steps to inform you of any cancellation as soon as possible and will work with you to rebook your course to another date. Participants will have 12 months from the original course date to rebook. Any remaining credit will expire after this period. We will not be responsible for any costs incurred due to course cancellation.
Participant-Booked Venue and External Arrangements
If a participant has independently booked and paid for a venue or any other third-party service related to the course, NZRC shall not be responsible or liable for any costs, damages, or losses incurred as a result of NZRC cancelling or postponing the course. This includes, but is not limited to, venue hire fees, deposits, or other third-party charges paid directly by the participant.
Participants are advised to confirm cancellation and refund policies directly with their venue or service provider. NZRC encourages participants to consider insurance coverage for such costs where possible.
In cases where the venue cancellation or non-provision is due to circumstances beyond NZRC’s control (e.g., weather, vendor issues), NZRC will endeavour to inform participants promptly and offer alternatives, such as rescheduled courses or refunds of paid fees, where applicable.
Participants further acknowledge that NZRC’s liability in relation to venue arrangements is limited to the refund of course fees paid directly to NZRC and does not extend to ancillary costs such as venue hire, external deposits, or other third-party charges."
English Language requirements
The course and assessments are in English. To receive a first aid certificate and the relevant unit standards, you need to pass written, verbal, and practical assessments in English. If you don’t pass the assessments, you will not receive a certificate or the unit standards available.
In some circumstances, it may be appropriate for you to bring a support person to assist your learning. For further information, please contact us before you attend the course.
Physical fitness
Our face-to-face courses are practical and involve groupwork. You’ll need to show the tutor that you are physically able to perform key first aid tasks in simulated emergency situations. You must be able to kneel on the floor to perform CPR. If you are unable to do this long enough for the tutor to assess competency, you may not meet the requirements for a New Zealand Red Cross First Aid Certificate or the unit standards (if applicable). This requirement is not applicable to our Mental Health and Psychosocial courses.
Learning difficulties, disabilities, and physical requirements
If you have a learning difficulty, disability, or an illness, which you feel may affect your performance during the course, please contact us to discuss this prior to the course start date.
Smoking
New Zealand Red Cross has a no-smoking policy
Alcohol and drugs
New Zealand Red Cross can refuse to teach a student if it suspects that they either have consumed, are under the influence of, or are in possession of alcohol or drugs during course hours.
Crèche or childcare
There are no baby or child-minding facilities available. Children and babies are not allowed in the classroom in any of the courses, including child first aid.
Minimum age for course participants
All course participants must be 14 years or older.
Consumer Guarantees Act 1993
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. If NZRC cancels a course, you may be entitled to a full refund or alternative arrangements.
Confidentiality, Privacy and Use of Information
New Zealand Red Cross adheres to, and abides by, all aspects of the Privacy Act 2020 in its dealings with members, volunteers, staff, supporters, clients and public, safeguarding personal information collected in connection with purchases and training.
