About our fundraising for regular donors 

New Zealand Red Cross partners with specialist face-to-face and tele-fundraising agencies who help us welcome new regular donors and maintain meaningful connections with our existing supporters. These teams play a vital role in growing and supporting our community of committed Humanitarian Partners. The generosity of those Humanitarian Partners ensures people receive care, comfort, and hope in every hour of need. 

Face-to-face fundraisers 

Our face-to-face fundraising representatives meet people in various places, including on the street, malls, supermarkets, and on doorsteps. They talk to people about our programmes and how regular giving makes a significant difference. This type of fundraising is one of the most affordable and cost-effective ways of raising funds to assist people in their hour of need. 

While they may approach donors on their own, they always work in pairs or small teams, with a colleague nearby. They follow clear professional standards and guidelines to ensure a respectful experience for everyone they meet. Fundraisers only make unsolicited approaches to residential or business properties between 9.00am and 8.30pm during summer daylight saving hours, and between 9.00am and 7.00pm during winter. These hours help ensure their interactions are considerate and safe for both the public and our teams.

Identifying our fundraising representatives 

Legitimate New Zealand Red Cross face-to-face fundraising representatives will: 

  • Be wearing a Red Cross branded t-shirt or jacket displaying the New Zealand Red Cross logo. 
  • Be displaying a New Zealand Red Cross staff, or agency identification badge with their name, photo, and identification number.
  • Never ask for, or accept a cash donation.

Information our fundraising representatives will ask for 

When you become a Humanitarian Partner with our fundraising representatives, you will be asked to provide personal information and bank or credit card details to allow automatic donations. All this information is kept strictly confidential and handled in line with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements and New Zealand privacy laws. 

Our fundraising standards

New Zealand Red Cross is a member of the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) of New Zealand. The PFRA works with charities and service providers to ensure quality, integrity, and transparency in face-to-face fundraising by creating an atmosphere of public confidence and regulatory satisfaction.

New Zealand Red Cross is also a member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA), a professional body dedicated to promoting ethical fundraising practices across New Zealand and Australia. As members, we adhere to the FIA Code of Conduct, a self-regulatory framework that sets the standard for transparency, accountability, and ethical behaviour in fundraising.
