As a boy growing up in England’s southwest, Snowy Lintern wanted to be a sailor. “I ran away to sea as soon as I could.”

He joined the Royal Navy in 1987 and stayed for 25 years, during which he served in Iraq and deployed to Afghanistan. He’s been an armed forces delegate with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) since 2018 and is based in Tokyo, where he covers Asia-Pacific.

We’re taking the time to remember those who served in the past, as well as the incredible humanitarians we continue to deploy overseas to provide relief in conflict zones.

This year's Moot case saw TechAnon appear before the International Criminal Court. Although a fictional case, it highlights real concerns about the use and misuse of artificial intelligence (AI), deepfakes, and social media in modern warfare. It shows the effects of war in cities and the risks of targeting civilian objects.

The generosity of New Zealanders means we have raised just over NZD$5 million to help people affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The International Day of the Disappeared is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with the families of missing persons and to remember their missing relatives. We want families to know that they are not alone, that their loved ones are not forgotten, and that the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement continues to work to help them find the answers and support they deserve.
