Every 30 August, the International Day of the Disappeared shines a light on one of the most painful and enduring consequences of conflict, violence, migration and disaster: not knowing where a loved one is, or what has happened to them.

New Zealand Red Cross is deeply concerned by the recent escalation of hostilities in parts of the Middle East, as well as rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Since 1915, we’ve played a vital role in both local communities and international humanitarian efforts. An area where our local and international work connects is tracing missing people, a service we’ve provided since the First World War and continue today with Restoring Family Links.
