Curtain Bank Coordinator
Role description
Keeping homes warm with appropriate curtains is essential to maintaining health and wellbeing. Our curtain bank coordinators support the day-to-day operation of our curtain banks by coordinating volunteers, managing workflow, and helping ensure curtains are collected, prepared, and distributed efficiently to people living in cold houses.
The coordinator plays an important role in creating a positive volunteer environment and supporting the smooth running of curtain bank activities within their local community.
Your tasks
- Coordinating day-to-day curtain bank activities.
- Supporting and organising volunteers during curtain bank sessions.
- Assisting with sorting, measuring, and distributing curtains when needed.
- Liaising with New Zealand Red Cross employees and community partners.
- Helping maintain a safe, organised, and positive working environment.
- Assisting with volunteer onboarding and basic administration.
Location
We have curtain banks in Mount Maunganui, Whakatāne, Palmerston North, Napier, Gisborne, and Invercargill. Please choose the team you want to join from the location options above.
Each of our curtain banks has a workspace, but some tasks for the coordinator role may be completed remotely.
Volunteer requirements and training
You’ll need to have good communication and organisational skills and enjoy supporting and coordinating volunteers in a positive and inclusive environment. Sewing knowledge is helpful but not essential, as there are a variety of tasks involved in the role.
This role would suit someone with experience in administration, coordination or community work who enjoys working with people and helping a team succeed.
Training and ongoing support will be provided by New Zealand Red Cross employees and volunteers.
Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW)
We all have a responsibility for our own and others’ Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) when undertaking activities on behalf of Red Cross. Therefore, it is important you:
- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, do not adversely affect the HSW of others
- Complete health, safety and wellbeing induction, training, programmes and activities – as directed.
- Follow all reasonable instructions given to you relating to HSW.
- Cooperate and comply with New Zealand Red Cross policies, standards and procedures related to health, safety, and wellbeing.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) if required, to undertake any work activity
- If you identify a hazard and/or you are involved in an incident or near miss, report this straight away to your people leader
- Know what to do in an emergency – for example, how to escape during a fire or what to do if an earthquake occurs
- You must tell someone in charge if you have any health and safety concerns or worried about someone else’s health and safety
- Ministry of Justice - criminal record check
- Two referees for character checks
