Visitor Care Manaaki Manuhiri has closed

Since 1 July 2020, Te Tari Taiwhenua, Department of Internal Affairs and New Zealand Red Cross have been supporting temporary visa holders facing hardship and unable to return home because of COVID-19 via Visitor Care Manaaki Manuhiri. The programme closed at midnight 30 November 2020. 

The Government has put in place a medium to long-term solution to support temporary visa holders in hardship in New Zealand. The Emergency Benefit, paid via the Ministry of Social Development, will be a flat rate paid weekly, based on the person’s situation. People applying will have to visit a Work and Income service centre and book a face-to-face appointment to apply. Applications can’t be booked or completed online or over the phone.

Outside of the Emergency Benefit support being offered by the Ministry of Social Development from 1 December, there is other support available to temporary visa holders in New Zealand facing hardship.

In-kind vouchers

For those people who applied and have been accepted for Visitor Care Manaaki Manuhiri by midnight 30 November, your vouchers will be mailed directly to you. Vouchers are no longer available for pick up in any of our previous pick up locations, except on Waiheke Island.

Please make sure if your address has changed since you submitted your application for support, to contact our team on 0800 RED CROSS (0800 733 276) within 24 hours of receiving the confirmation email to advise us of your new details.

Once you have received confirmation that you are approved for an in-kind voucher, you will receive a second email with your mailing tracking number. Please allow up to three to five business days for the delivery of the in-kind vouchers.  

If you do not receive your vouchers within this timeframe, please contact New Zealand Post on 0800 268 743 with your mailing tracking number to track your package or visit New Zealand’s post website. Please note delivery packages will require your signature upon delivery.
