Refugee Trauma Recovery
Whakaora Whētuki Rerenga
Our Refugee Trauma Recovery service provides clinical and therapeutic support to former refugees who have experienced torture and/or trauma. Our service is available to children, young people and adults.
Our core clinical service
Former refugees have often faced a long and challenging journey to find their home in New Zealand. Our Refugee Trauma Recovery service allows our clients to talk in confidence with a professional who understands their challenges. Our team supports former refugees to restore well-being, cope more effectively and regain control of their lives.
Our team is made up of psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, a social worker and a psychiatrist. We provide screening, assessment, treatment, therapy, care coordination and onward referral.
We work closely with other professional agencies to provide holistic support to clients. We also provide capacity building to other organisations on request.
The Refugee Trauma Recovery service is available to anyone from a refugee background who is experiencing psychological difficulties resulting from trauma. These services are completely free of charge, as are interpreters that can be provided where necessary. Clients participate in Refugee Trauma Recovery services on an entirely voluntary basis and are able to opt out at any time.
Do you have a client to refer to our services?
Anyone can apply for our service by filling in the online referral form or calling (04) 805 0350. Please complete the form with as much detail as possible, and one of our team will be in touch.Referral form
What is trauma?
We use the International Committee of the Red Cross' position and definition of torture and trauma.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me with my sorrow. Because of you, I now lead a normal life.
