New Zealand Red Cross launches Venezuela Earthquakes Emergency Appeal
26 June 2026
New Zealand Red Cross has launched an Emergency Appeal to support people affected by the deadly earthquakes in Venezuela, including the area surrounding Caracas.
The earthquakes caused widespread structural damage, damaged homes, hospitals and other critical infrastructure, and prompted a nationwide state of emergency. A major search and rescue operation remains underway while aftershocks continue to pose additional risks for affected communities.
The humanitarian impact is significant and will continue to evolve as damage assessments are completed. The Venezuelan Red Cross has activated its emergency response, working alongside local authorities to provide emergency assistance, support search and rescue efforts, conduct emergency needs assessments and prepare shelter for people displaced by the earthquakes.
"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these devastating earthquakes," says Sarah Stuart-Black, Secretary General of New Zealand Red Cross.
"Communities are facing enormous challenges as emergency responders continue searching for survivors and supporting those whose lives have been affected.
"Through this appeal, New Zealanders can help support the vital humanitarian work already underway."
New Zealand Red Cross has launched the Venezuela Earthquakes Emergency Appeal to support the humanitarian response of our Movement partners.
Funds raised will help provide emergency assistance, shelter, relief supplies, health support and other humanitarian aid for people affected by the earthquakes.
