Following the deadly earthquakes of February 2023, communities in the south of Türkiye and the north of Syria are in desperate need of humanitarian aid. Red Crescent teams on the ground are working as fast as they can to meet the growing needs of those affected.

Your donation will directly assist the efforts to provide emergency relief and longer recovery aid to those who have been devastated by this disaster.

Thank you for the compassion you have shown those in need today.

Please donate today to help the people of Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria receive lifesaving support.

Around 21 million people in Türkiye and Syria have been affected by two earthquakes that struck on Monday, 6 February 2023. The deadly earthquakes with a 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude struck less than nine hours apart and have sadly taken the lives of tens of thousands of people and left many thousands more injured and homeless.

Just two weeks later, on 20 February, a third large earthquake of 6.4 magnitude struck the Syria Türkiye border region, causing further injury and loss of life.

The urgent humanitarian needs on the ground are overwhelming and continue to grow. Recovery will take years.

People have lost loved ones, their homes and livelihoods. Hundreds of thousands of people are sleeping in temporary shelters and are vulnerable to harsh weather conditions. There is an urgent need for food, clean water, electricity, fuel, shelter, water sanitation and health care.

Widespread damage to buildings, hospitals and roads, as well as harsh winter weather, are making relief efforts even more difficult and further limiting people’s access to lifesaving help.

Kizilay (Turkish Red Crescent Society) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent are at the heart of the response – supporting rescue efforts and delivering aid since the first earthquakes hit.

More than 9,000 Red Crescent staff and volunteers are on the ground across Türkiye and Syria, helping to provide food, medical aid, shelter, emergency relief items, and psychosocial support.

Kizilay has already provided more than 100 million hot meals, 140,000 cash vouchers, 202,000 blankets, and more than 54,000 tents to people and families affected.

Syrian Arab Red Crescent is working in the hardest hit areas and has delivered 1.8 million relief items and health support to 54,000 people in need.

Psychosocial needs for individuals and families are escalating in both countries.

Local teams have already provided psychosocial support services for 72,000 impacted people across both countries.

We are in close contact with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Kizilay – Turkish Red Crescent, and Syrian Arab Red Crescent to understand the needs so that we can provide the most effective support. We have sent one of our International Delegates to Ankara, Türkiye to provide specialist skills in the leadership of the operational response. We are also looking to deploy further specialist New Zealand Red Cross International Delegates to support work on the ground.

One hundred percent of the funds raised in this Appeal will be used to aid the relief and recovery efforts of Red Cross and Red Crescent teams who are working to provide urgently needed support to the people of Türkiye and Syria who have been impacted by this devastating disaster.

Please help by donating today. Your support can make a real difference for those in desperate need of assistance in both Türkiye and Syria.

Also, don't forget that when you make a donation of over $5, you can claim 33 percent of it back from IRD.
