Urgent volunteering needs
We are urging people to consider volunteering for New Zealand Red Cross to help deliver on our mission to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilising the power of humanity and enhancing community resilience.
We currently have a critical need to recruit volunteers to deliver meals on wheels, aid our disaster response and recovery efforts, support our refugees and help assist in our Red Cross shops.
While you’ll be offering your valuable skills and experience, for many of our volunteer positions you’ll also receive training. And in all our roles, you’ll be supported by other experienced volunteers or Red Cross staff.
Urgent need for refugee support volunteers
By becoming a Refugee Support volunteer, you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of former refugees, helping them navigate the resettlement process and rebuild their lives in their new community.
We urgently need volunteers to help former refugees settle and feel at home in Aotearoa New Zealand in the following areas:
Wellington - Upper Hutt
We are looking for 28 friendly volunteers to join our small volunteer teams and assist former refugee families in settling around Upper Hutt. You will receive comprehensive training and support for your role and have an enjoyable and diverse cultural experience.
We have training dates coming up in Wellington on the 27th, 28th November, and 2nd December.
Wairarapa - around the community
We are looking for 21 friendly volunteers to join our small RSV teams and assist former refugee families in settling around Wellington. You will receive comprehensive training and support for your role and have an enjoyable and diverse cultural experience.
We have training dates coming up in Masterton on the 22nd and 23rd of November.
Invercargill
We are looking for 20 more volunteers to join our team to support the arrival of former refugee families to Invercargill.
Apply now and we will schedule a training course as soon as there are three or more interested volunteers.
We have training dates coming up on the 21st, 26th, 28th of November, and 3rd of December.
Palmerston North
We are looking for 19 people like YOU to welcome, support and settle new former refugee families and individuals arriving and joining our Palmerston North community.
We have training coming up on the 23rd of November.
Urgent need for Meals on Wheels drivers
Our volunteers are the backbone of this service, and we couldn’t continue deliveries without them. We need your help. We have a shortage of volunteers and a critical need to make sure we increase the number of drivers in the following areas:
Auckland

We need 92 volunteer drivers for delivery runs in Howick, Milford, Greenlane and Waiheke Island.
Urgent need for volunteer retail assistants
Recruiting volunteers in our most critical areas of need will enable the Red Cross to continue generating funds to support our humanitarian programs. We currently need Red Cross shop volunteers in the following areas:
Christchurch - Woolston, Christchurch central
- We need 73 retail shop assistants for our Red Cross shops in Woolston and Christchurch central.
Rotorua - Victoria
- We are urgently looking for 43 friendly and reliable volunteers for our Rotorua Urban Ore Red Cross Shop during shop hours 9am - 5pm, Monday to Sunday.
Auckland - Takanini
- We are urgently looking for 42 friendly and reliable volunteers across at our Red Cross Shop in Takanini.
Wellington - Porirua

We are urgently looking for friendly and reliable volunteers for our newly opened Porirua Red Cross Shop. We are looking for volunteers to support us and our friendly team during shop hours Mon - Sun 9am - 5pm. We have morning and afternoon shifts available. We are urgently looking for 33 friendly and reliable volunteers for our Napier Carlyle Street Red Cross Shop during shop hours 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am-3pm Saturday.
